The Wine Lover's Gift Guide:
What to Get the Connoisseur Who Has Everything
December 6, 2010
"You are so difficult to buy for."
If you have heard it once, you have heard it a thousand times! But when you get to a certain age, your wife, significant other or friends have a point. You can drop several hints about what size, what shape or what color, but rarely does a hint make the point.
While the most given gift during the Holidays is money, I have a better suggestion for the upcoming gift season - wine accessories! So, if you are looking for a creative way to get your favorite wine or spirits person a gift that will endure, here are a few suggestions.
Many distilleries and producers are releasing special limited bottlings and flavored spirtits for the Holidays. To showcase those selections, HomeWetbar.com has some suggestions for personalized decanters. What better way to store your Makers Mark 46 or even better, Gentleman Jack Single Barrel? You can almost see the Mad Men lovers running to the store now.
We always talk about wine, but how about getting it opened and serving our wine to our friends? I know that it seems like the world is turning to stelvin closures, but the cork producers are striking back. Don’t throw that corkscrew away just yet. Besides, 98% of what is in the cellar still needs to be opened with a corkscrew or Screwpuller. A great Lagiole corkscrew is a valued gift for years to come. At 100 Best Wines we were fortunate enough to test drive and support the Vinturi, a great accessory for the wine lover who enjoys the enhanced perfume and nose of good wine. Another product that has similar results is the Final Touch Decanter and Aerator set.
A few other ideas for the wine lover in your family. How about a 6 pack of Riedel or Spiegelau stemware? What about a grown up wine wish list? How about a Golfer’s wish list? Arnold Palmer, David Frost, Nick Faldo and others have lent their names and endorsements to wineries. My heritage is Italian-American, and HomeWetBar.com has a Sicilian Wine Cork Art Kit for $39.99. By filling the corks around the kit, it looks like a fresco found out in the vineyards. How about that, wine art and you have to drink vino to finish the decoration. Perfect!
Remember that sometimes to get the best wine gifts you need to give a few also. Happy Holidays and great vino coming your way!
